Guwahati Weather: Temperature and Climate

Guwahati situated in Assam enjoys a subtropical humid weather. The climate remains pleasant during the whole year but rainfall is extremely heavy in this part of the country.

Heat & humidity, the usual characteristics of summer are overshadowed by consistent showers. June is, on an average, the warmest month of the year while January is the coolest. 

Winter season in Guwahati

Autumn precedes the winter season in Guwahati. Mornings and afternoons are relatively misty and foggy and create traffic issues in the winter months of November – February. During this season, there is scanty rainfall and the temperature oscillates between 11 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Summer season in Guwahati

The summer season onsets from the month of March and lasts till June. It is devoid of the scorching heat as the temperature ranges from a low of 25 degrees Celsius to an average high of 32 degrees Celsius on the account of occasional downpour. 

Monsoon season in Guwahati

The monsoon climate is moderate and warm in the months of July to September. The average rainfall of about 1600 mm is received by the city. Heavy rainfall results in water – logging and affects the infrastructure of the city in a big way. 

Advice for travelers to Guwahati

 Best time to visit Guwahati is from October to April as this is the period when the weather is quite suitable as well as Assamese festival of Bihu is celebrated in various forms during these months. Rainfall is a common phenomenon at this time so travel accordingly.
