IRCTC strands for Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation. It is government of India undertaking and works under the ministry of railways. Incorporated in the year 2002 IRCTC is one of the most successful organizations of the Indian Railways.

It main function areas are catering in Indian railway trains, railway stations and railway tourism. Online ticket reservation system introduced by IRCTC a few years back has met with huge success. Over the time there is surge in online bookings on the ITCTC website. Reduction of reservation charges over the years has also helped in increasing its popularity. IRCTC has brought a revolution in online ticketing systems and helped travellers from the burden of long queues and dependency on ticket agents. Tickets can be booked form the comfort of homes and offices.

IRCTC has a registered user base of more than 60 Lacs and more than one lac tickets are booked daily

IRCTC service charges for ticket booking

Two types of tickets can be booked

I ticket: ticket is booked online but delivered through courier for select pin codes. Two days required for delivery

E ticket: ticket is booked online and printout taken immediately or anytime from ticket booked history. Identity proof required for this type of ticket during travel only.

Service Charges for booking per ticket (max 6 passengers)

I Ticket

Rs.40/- for SL, 2S and Rs.60 for all other Upper classes

E ticket

Rs.10/- (Second / Sleeper) and Rs.20/-per e-ticket in case of all other classes (1AC,2AC,3AC,CC,3E,FC) irrespective of the number of passengers booked on an e-ticket.

    E ticket is booked online and you can print it at your end whereas I ticket is booked online and is delivered on your address by courier etc. Identity proof is required for E tickets while traveling.

    There is one request for bulk booking option on the 4th page at the bottom part in the page. click to on it, then you will be take to the one another page for bulk booking for a above six peoples to one full bogie. you can do the bookings here ok. The beauty part is any booking more than 10 births they give discounts also. I travelled with my all colleegues from goa to thinkusia and back to goa like this only.

    i had filed TDR in feb 2011 as the train was almost 20hrs late. i am continuously mailing to care@irctc.co.in but of no use. i just use to get an automated mail but after that no response. i have tried as many number as i could have collected from internet but of no use. some are out of service, some rings but no body picks up, some goes to computerised centre but ultimately happens nothing.
