Bandra Terminus to Mumbai Airport

The Bandra Terminus and the Mumbai Airport are undoubtedly among the most crucial travel/transport transit points in the city of Mumbai (formerly Bombay). The former, distinct from the Bandra local suburban railway station of the Mumbai suburban railway service, is an important junction in the Indian national railway network and has regular long range trains scheduled from its premises. On the flip side, the Mumbai Airport, which was earlier bifurcated in the Sahar Airport for international transit and Santa Cruz Airport for domestic transit, is now merged into what is called as the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA). The Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport is India’s and South Asia’s crucial aviation hub in terms of passenger traffic. It is connected to most of the major cities on the globe with regular passenger, cargo and charter airlines operating on a regular basis.

If you are planning to travel from Bandra Terminus to the Mumbai airport by train, then you might be faced with a plethora of constraints. Unlike some of the major airports in the big cities, the Mumbai airport does not have a direct train or Metro service to the doorstep. First of all, from Bandra Terminus one has to switch over to the local Bandra suburban railway station and then to road transport in order to reach the exact destination (here is a map which would give a rough idea of the location and distance between the two stations http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=19.0560132&lon=72.8429282&z=17&l=0&m=b). It will be a daunting task on working days, especially if the traveler does not believe in travelling light.

Finding a cab is another challenge considering the hustle and bustle outside the railway stations. The nearest Railway station to the Domestic Terminal of the Mumbai Airport is the Ville Parle station (East). It is approximately at a distance of 7 kilometers, i.e. 4.3 miles from the Airport. Fare for the train ticket is very low and would not go beyond Rs.10, irrespective of whichever station you descend at.
